Social activists under the banner of the Anti-Destructive Development Committee on Tuesday called for a united effort by all those likely to be ousted by proposed power, iron ore extraction and other plants, to replace the present “destructive development'' with “people-centric'' development.

A 24-member Jatha including members fighting against the proposed projects at Sompeta and Kakarapalli joined hands with their counterparts in Konjedu in Prakasam district, where the local people are fighting against proposed iron ore extraction plant and in Chirala and Vinodarayinipalem, where power plants have been proposed ousting the local people from “wet lands''.

They expressed solidarity with the GENCO Vithireka Porata Samiti in Kanaparti spearheading stir against proposed thermal plant.
