HYDERABAD: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department K. Ranga Rao has said that it was only to improve urban governance that the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) had been launched at a cost of about Rs. 50,000 crores.

Addressing a workshop on `mandatory reforms' on Thursday, the Minister said JNNURM's objectives also included ensuring service delivery so that urban local bodies became sustainable in providing basic infrastructure to the urban poor.
