On the occasion of 7{+t}{+h}annual celebrations, K.S. Sastry-Ramanamma Charitable Trust has presented cash awards to Director of Deccan Development Society (DDS), Hyderabad and national convenor of SAGE P.V. Satheesh and to former Mayor and president of Visakha Public Library D.V. Subba Rao. Presenting the awards, freedom fighter and Gandhian K.S. Sastry shared his experience as freedom fighter, former parliamentarian, union leader and his participation in Quit India Movement on his 91{+s}{+t}birthday. He suggested everybody to follow Gandhian principles.

Mr. Satheesh highlighted sustainable agriculture, food security and food sovereignty. “Farmers should adopt eco-friendly methods of farming. And that food sovereignty builds knowledge and skills rather than depending on alien technologies,” he said. A power point presentation was made on the benefits of traditional farming.

Appreciating the freedom fighter, President of GITAM University M.V.V.S. Murthy, who was the chief guest, said: “Mr. Sastry leads by example and his service oriented attitude makes him more enthusiastic even at this age. Those who want to render service need not necessarily be affluent. One can do their bit to society with whatever little they have got. It is important to inculcate helping tendency and be service-oriented,” he said.

Mr. Subba Rao said Mr. Sastry and his wife had inspired many people with their Gandhian philosophy, thoughts and ageless service. He released Gandhi Centre bulletin.

Adding flavour to the programme, members of DDS organised an exhibition on millets. Later, special news photographer of The Hindu C.V. Subrahmanyam and senior photographer of Andhra Jyothi M. Vijay were felicitated by Mr. Sastry. Social activists- P. Devullu of Sanjeevini and K. Saraswathi were honoured. Former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University V. Balamohan Das and Supreme Court advocate Vyricherla Shruti Devi spoke. Wife of Mr. Sastry Ramanamma, members of DDS and farmers were present.
