High incidence of blindness among children a cause for concern
Former MP and GITAM University president M.V.V.S. Murthi on Sunday said doctors and teachers should take the lead in creating awareness on eye donation.
Speaking at the valedictory of eye donation fortnight conducted at LV Prasad Eye Hospital here by Mohsin Eye Bank in association with Lions Club Visakhapatnam and Vasavi Club, he said the message could reach more persons if doctors and teachers talked about how retrieval of cornea from the dead without causing any disfigurement within a short time could provide vision to two persons.
Announcing a donation of Rs.1 lakh to Mohsin Eye Bank after the Mohsin Group presented a cheque for Rs.2.55 lakh to Vebart Trust which manages the bank, he said he would also get pledging of eye donation by the students and hold audio-visual awareness camps on the campus.
