District Medical and Health Officer U. Swarajya Lakshmi has called upon parents and personnel on deputation for Pulse Polio programme on Sunday to coordinate for administering polio drops to all children 0-5 years of age.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Dr. Swarajya Lakshmi said that 2, 39, 718 children were identified in all the34 mandals in the district for immunisation.
She said 1600 teams would man 1600 booths, which include all transit points such railway stations, bus terminals, markets, and other busy areas. Stating that 3.30lakh doses have been dispatched and stored at various points for the programme, she said that the teams would visit door-to-door on January 21 and 22 to immunise children left uncovered on the Pulse Polio Day.
She said that the second phase of the programme was scheduled on February 24. Dr. Swarajya Lakshmi said that the nation would be declared polio-free if not a case of polio is reported for third successive year, 2013. District Immunisation Officer N. Kishore Kumar and others were present.
