GUNTUR: Literacy is the key for empowerment of women financially and socially, said District Education Officer Parvathi, while addressing a large gathering of women from Self-Help Groups at Vinukonda in Guntur district on Thursday. The Vinukonda MLA GV Anjaneyulu complimented women for doing their bit in improving the standard of living in the society, without which it would not have been possible to sustain development.

Reminding that women did not get proper opportunities in the country, he welcomed the Women's Reservation Bill and hoped that women from all strata of society benefited out of this provision, which could prove very beneficial in empowering women politically so that they have a stake in decision making/policy matters. At a meeting organised by the Shiva Shakti Foundation, she said that woman in every household should be literate so that everyone in the house benefits through her knowledge level enhancement. Financial empowerment means making them stand on their own feet.
