“I am happy that I am a source of inspiration for you, but I would be happiest when one among you becomes a source of inspiration for me,” said IG of Police Maharashtra and former Joint Director of CBI V.V. Lakshminarayana.

Addressing a massive gathering of students from schools in the region who had come to participate in a mass singing of National Song Vande Mataram at the NTR Stadium in Anakapalle near here on Saturday, he called on the youth to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and emulate Swami Vivekananda.

He urged the youth to be united and said only when the people are united can India reach heights in the world. Indians over the years have become meek like the goat, but this is not the correct picture of our great nation. The nation has produced a number of intellectuals and personalities that the world is proud of, he said. India is weak only because of the dwindling spirit of patriotism among us, he added.

Vande Mataram had a major role in firing the spirit of patriotism among the people during the freedom struggle, he said and appreciated the efforts of Sankalpam Rural Development Force in organising such a programme.

The programme to bring together so many students to sing Vande Mataram together was a result of two months of hard work, which included meeting students, parents, teachers and school managements to convince them to participate in the event organised on the eve of the 65{+t}{+h}Republic Day, secretary of Sankalpam and advocate A Katyayini said.

The event was organised with an aim to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the youth and with a hope of inspiring at least one among them to be a future role model, she added.

Navy band from the Eastern Naval Command participated in the event, which included some inspiring dance performances from students from different schools and other cultural programmes. Students of Good Shepherd School carried a massive 1-km long National tricolour through the gathered audience.

A number of educational institutions including, Delhi Public School, Wellfare Group of Educational Institutions, Sunkara Alwardas Group of Educational Institutions, City Public School, Bhashyam Public School, Samyukta School, Chaitanya School, DAV Schools, Vignan Colleges, JMJ School, Sai Kulvant Group of Colleges, ABS School, Ravindra Bharati Schools and Good Shepherd Schoolparticipated.

NCC Officer Satyam Master, Korukonda Sambasiva, Galli Brahmaji and Sarvani Krishna Reddy, among others who organised the event were present.
