The State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing itself to adopt the next generation internet protocol (IP) technology next fiscal to improve its Internet, voice and video telephony services.

BSNL General Manager M.L.N.Rao told reporters here on Friday that Centre for Development of Telematics’ next generation technology offered several advantages over traditional technologies such as increased efficiency, faster speed, and improved management while providing to customers its Internet, voice and video telephony services.

BSNL Ongole had put 14 WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) towers to provide the premium wireless Internet service in the district, he said. Thanks to very good response to its “reconnection mela” held recently, as many as 1,000 old customers had been brought back to BSNL, he said. He maintained that the radiation level of BSNL cell phone towers were well within the norms set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. On the occasion of the BSNL’s 13th formation day, he distributed prizes to four essay competition winning students M. Durga Nagamallesh of BVSR College, Chimakurthy, B. Abi Sai of the QIS IT college, M. Suresh of RISE group college and B. Ramakrishna of BVSR college.

While the first two were awarded a blackberry instrument each, the last two got BSNL 3g datacard for their writing on BSNL 3G services.
