Work in progress at 2,400 sites: Chief General Manager

VIJAYAWADA: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will soon launch its 3G services in the State as part of its plans to provide high speed internet, video streaming, data and other services on mobile handsets.

Arrangements are being made swiftly to meet the requirements for introducing these 3G mobile service in 29 cities and towns in a phased manner.

BSNL chief general manager T.N. Sudheendra Kumar says that most probably, 3G services will be introduced in Vijayawada city in the first phase of its operations itself considering advanced stage of the necessary infrastructural arrangements.

He says that for the first time, live video streaming service will be provided through BSNL 3G.

Mr. Kumar asserts that though the recent unrest and agitation for bifurcation caused a setback and slowed down the operations, they have been confident to launch new services like 3G without further delay. Mr. Kumar inaugurated a BSNL 3G Experience Centre at its facility at Central Telegraph Office in BRP Road beside Vastralatha here on Wednesday.

He also inaugurated demo of 3G services and BSNL’s Sanchar Saradhi Hindi magazine. General Manager John Chrisostom, DGMs and others were present.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Mr. Sudheendra Kumar said that the Experience Centre was aimed at informing the people about the greater experience of various services in real time they would get with the 3G BSNL mobile services to be launched soon.

He informed that work was in progress at 2,400 sites to meet the requirement for 3G services, as equipment used in this is different from that of 2G services.

Mr. Kumar expressed the hope that the tariff under 3G services would be mostly like affordable for the customers and the users could access video and data calls. He said that work was going on at 185 sites in the State with regard to the provision of WiMax services.

Mr. Kumar said that their revenue for this year was estimated to be Rs. 2,300 crore and it would equal that of last year’s revenue.
