HYDERABAD: The brothers and relatives of the housewife Malini, who got washed away in a ‘nala’ two days ago at Musheerabad, allegedly murdered her husband’s elder brother, Sampath, 35, in Bhoiguda on Thursday morning.

It was Sampath who performed the marriage of his brother, Ramesh, with Malini two years ago in the face of opposition from the latter’s family. Malini’s family members wanted to take revenge against Sampath for this and killed him holding him responsible for her death, his family members charged.

Under threat?

A labourer, Sampath lives in Suraram village of Huzurabad of Karimnagar district. On learning about Malini’s death, he came to the city with his family on Wednesday. “It is yet to be ascertained whether he had a threat to his life from Malini’s brothers but he stayed in a relative’s house in Bholakpur instead of going to his brother’s place,” the police said.

Investigation revealed that Malini’s brothers had been calling his mobile from Wednesday morning stating that they wanted to meet him to talk about the fate of Malini’s 18-month-old daughter. But his wife avoided them telling that he was taking rest. Around 6 a.m. on Thursday, Malini’s brothers - Rajesh and Shiva - came to the house where Sampath was staying, called him out and took him to an isolated place near Patidar Bhavan in Bhoiguda.

“Already, three uncles of Malini and three others were waiting there. They beat him up, stabbed him with a knife and inflicted slash injuries with a blade and fled after he died,” the police said.
