HYDERABAD: A.P. Tourism Development Corporation is planning many initiatives including ‘Bringing Goa to Andhra Pradesh’ by developing vast unexploited coastline of State on the lines of popular beach resorts of Goa, said APTDC Chairman Swaranjit Sen here on Friday.

Mr. Sen, who inaugurated the new hostel buildings of National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) at Gachibowli, also said they would introduce ‘Tourism Week’ starting with ‘Ugadi’ festival as a regular feature every year. Organising week-long sailing regatta event for those in the age group of 8 to 15 years near Bhavani Islands by end of April was another activity planned. Tourism promotional programmes will be organised shortly at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, he said.

APTDC would work with organisations promoting ‘Right to Walk’ for restoring footpaths to pedestrians, ‘Heritage walk’ to encourage citizens learn about and respect heritage structures.

NITHM Director-General A.K.V.S. Reddy said the sprawling institute with all facilities was jointly set up by Central and State tourism departments, sharing Rs.10 crore each. So far 200 MBA and 50 BBA students who passed out found placement in leading tourism, airlines and hospitality organisations.
