KHAMMAM: The CPI (M) would observe the first anniversary of the Mudigonda killings on July 28 by paying homage to the martyrs of the land struggle, according to the party district secretary P. Sudarshana Rao on Thursday. He said that a massive rally would be organised on the occasion. It would be addressed by Brinda Karat, MP, and Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu, State secretary, and Thammineni Veerabhadram, MLA and central committee member besides a host of other senior leaders.
The CPI(M) district committee, which met here in the day, appealed to the party cadres to make it a success. He said that the Mudigonda incident had put once again the land issue on the main agenda in the country. The land struggle was taken up by the party at 350 centres in Khammam district alone. Over one lakh acres of land was occupied by the landless people as part of the agitation.
He said that the Mudigonda incident had exposed the land reforms programme in the State. The government has resorted to repressive measures to put down the land struggle.
