in murder case

Rajahmundry: Businessman Bommana Rajkumar has been acquitted in a murder case registered in 2000. Second additional sessions and district Judge S. Jagannatha Rao in his judgment has said that the prosecution has failed to establish the evidence against the businessman.

A case was registered against Rajkumar in connection with the murder of Sharif, also a businessman in the town.

Released on bail

Nellore: Former Municipal Commissioner S. Charles Umapthy, who was recently trapped by officials of ACB and could not be released from Central Prison on Monday due to a defective surety, was released on Tuesday.

Nellore: A 50-year old person was run over by a train near Kondayapalem area of Nellore town on Tuesday. The incident occurred when the deceased was crossing the railway track. ONGOLE: The Horticulture Department has invited applications from farmers for selection of best horticulturist at the district and State levels for awards on the eve of Sankranthi.

Horticulturists who have achieved record yields using micro irrigation facilities, bio-fertilisers, export of fruits and flowers and doing floriculture under green house conditions will be awarded.

The selected farmers would be given Rs. 5,000 at district level and Rs. 10,000 at the State level.
