Governor's greetings

HYDERABAD: Governor Rameshwar Thakur has extended greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Deepavali. In a message here on Friday, he said Deepavali was a uniquely Indian festival as it marked the triumph of the forces of righteousness and virtue over evil.

TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu in his message hoped the festival would bring light in the lives of the people of the State. BJP president N. Indrasena Reddy also greeted people on the eve of Deepavali. - Special Correspondent

YSR greets Telugus

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy greeted Telugus in the State and elsewhere on the eve of Deepavali. In a statement here on Friday, he said Deepavali symbolised the triumph of good over evil. He expected his Government's programmes like Indiramma, Jala Yagnam, Housing, Rajiv Yuva Shakti and Indirakranthi Pathakam would bring cheer into the lives of the poor. - Special Correspondent

Srividya mourned

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday expressed grief at the demise of veteran film actress Srividya (53), daughter of Carnatic music maestro M. L. Vasanthakumari at Thiruvananthapuram.

In a message here Dr. Reddy recalled the services of Srividya to the Southern film industry and said her death was a great loss to the film industry, he said conveying condolences to the bereaved family. - Special Correspondent

Naidu's call to cadre

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu issued a missive to party cadres asking them to observe restraint. In a message on Thursday, he said that certain incidents in the past two days had shown that political values had declined. 3 killed in accident

KURNOOL: Three persons died in a road accident near Dhone on the NH-7 in Kurnool district on Friday. According to reports, the accident occurred when two lorries collided head-on resulting in the death of drivers of the two vehicles. The victims were identified as Ramesh (34), Younus (48) and Yousuf (26). Another injured person was rushed to hospital. The vehicles too were badly damaged. - Staff Reporter

Funds released

HYDERABAD: The State Government has released Rs. 2.04 crores towards 50 per cent power tariff to powerloom units with five horsepower load. It would benefit about 9,000 powerloom units. The amount was directly released to APTransco and CESS at Karimnagar to reduce the burden on weavers and the market. - Special Correspondent

Water goes waste

HYDERABAD: The quantity of water gone waste into the sea this year so far from three major rivers of the State Godavari, Krishna and Vamsadhara has officially been put at 5,812.6 tmcft. - Special Correspondent

Demonstration held

KURNOOL: Inmates of the Backward Classes hostel at Kodumur in Kurnool district staged a demonstration here on Friday urging the authorities to post a new warden. The students alleged that the warden had harassed students by not giving them proper food and even assaulted them physically. Staff Reporter

Club raided

KURNOOL: The police raided a club at Allagadda in Kurnool district and seized an amount of Rs. 16.13 lakhs on Friday. In all, 76 persons were taken into custody and 44 mobile phones were seized from them. Staff Reporter
