VISAKHAPATNAM: P.K. Bishnoi took over as Chairman and MD of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the holding company of VSP, on Monday. Mr. Bishnoi, a product of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, was Director (Finance) of RINL before his elevation. KURNOOL: First Additional District and Sessions Judge Umadevi convicted 28 persons in a twin murder case and awarded life imprisonment to them here on Monday. G. Ramana Reddy and 32 others hacked to death D. Malla Reddy and his brother D. Venkata Krishna Reddy at Pedda Ananthapuram near Atmakur on January 16, 2000. Fire destroys bus

KADAPA: A luxury bus of Pothula Travels was partly gutted due to short-circuit of its battery near a petrol pump at Sankarapuram on Sunday night.

Some seats, wiring, ceiling, DVD system etc. were partly destroyed in fire, causing an estimated loss of Rs. 80,000. A fire tender of Kadapa put off the flames. - Staff Reporter

Lorry waylaid

KADAPA: Unidentified youth waylaid a lorry and robbed its cleaner Darbar Basha of Rs. 2,000 at Thollagangannapalle in Vallur mandal in the early hours of Monday. Eight youth, clad in black dresses, put up horseshoe nails at Thollagangannapalle on the Kadapa-Yerraguntla road. When the lorry tyre got punctured, they beat Basha with a stick and robbed him. Paddy support price

KADAPA: The Central Government issued orders extending the bonus of Rs. 40 over the MSP for paddy, declared for kharif season, to rabi season too, Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande said on Monday.

The support price of Rs. 620 for common variety of paddy and Rs. 650 for `A' grade paddy would be applicable from April 1 to September 30, he said. - Staff Reporter

7 injured as tractor overturns

ELURU: Seven persons sustained critical injuries near Bhuttayagudem in West Godavari district on Monday when a tractor carrying a marriage party overturned. According to the police, the injured persons were shifted to Eluru and Kakinada for better treatment. Accident took place when the tractor, carrying over 60 people, was going to Doramamidi where a marriage was to be held. Bhuttayagudem police are investigating the case.
