Fire mishap

KADAPA: Operation theatre and sophisticated equipment in it were destroyed in a fire mishap in Jyothi Nursing Home on railway station road here on Thursday, allegedly due to electrical short circuit, causing a major loss. A laparascopic machine, ECG machine, two pulse oxymeters, boils apparatus, suction machine and other apparatus, an air-conditioner and false ceiling in the operation theatre were destroyed in the mishap, Dr. P. KADAPA: Journalists engrossed in coverage of events and gathering of news should concentrate on sports to ensure physical fitness and mental relaxation, district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Thursday. MRO detained

KURNOOL: MRO Nagendraprasad and Assistant Director of Agriculture Gandhi were detained by supporters of the CPI(M) at Pathikonda in Kurnool district on Wednesday demanding the mandal to be declared drought-hit. CPI(M) district secretary T. Shadrak said Pathikonda was one of the worst-hit this year but officials failed to reflect the condition in their reports resulting in non-inclusion of the mandal in the drought hit list. -Special Correspondent

Court order

TIRUPATI: The High Court has on Wednesday issued interim orders on the SV University authorities staying all further proceedings, including the recruitment to the post of Junior Medical Officers (OC-Women). The interim directions are sequel to a writ petition filed by a person named B. Ravichandra challenging the notification issued by the university on 1.11.06 for the recruitment of Junior Medical Officers and others staff for the University's Health Centre. -Special Correspondent

Record fund release from CM Relief Fund

HYDERABAD: In a record of sorts, Rs. 1 crore was released to needy patients from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund on a single day. A press release from the Chief Minister's office here said that it is the first time in the State history that such a huge amount was sanctioned to the patients suffering from various ailments on a single day on Thursday.

Everyday, between 200-300 persons meet the Chief Minister at his camp office and submit petitions seeking financial help and other assistance. - Special Correspondent

RTC posts highest per-day earnings

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has on Wednesday, January 17, registered the highest-ever revenues on a single day, earning Rs. 13.88 crores. In a press release, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, V. Cash receipts stopped

HYDERABAD: The Commercial Taxes Department will not issue cash receipts printed in the name of the Government in respect of payments made towards Value Added Tax (VAT), Central Sales Tax and other taxes from February 2.

T.S. Appa Rao, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, in a circular asked officers of the department not to collect taxes and issue cash memos in return. - Special Correspondent

Congress leader hacked to death

KURNOOL: Congress leader Pullagommi Rajasekhar Reddy was hacked to death on Thursday night. According to reports, Mr. Reddy, (50), who waiting in a vehicle near Gayatri estate was attacked by an armed gang.

He died on the spot while the driver and another man was hurt.

Mr. Reddy was a close follower of Kotla family. - Correspondent

Awards for schools

HYDERABAD: Computer Literacy Excellence Awards for Schools' (CLEAS) has been instituted by the State and Union Governments. While private and aided schools form part of category `A', government and municipal schools/ Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas constitute category `B'.

Two sentenced to life for murder

ADILABAD: Adilabad Second Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) K.V. Vijaya Kumar on Thursday sentenced U. Mallesh of Bhagatsinghnagar in Ramakrishnapur and Ganesh of Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad to life and Rs. 3,000 each for killing Kuntla Raju of Ramakrishnapur.- Staff Reporter
