Collector Smita Sabharwal rewarded the brave and courageous girl and lone survivor G. Akanksha of Gundlacheruvupalli village of Thimmapur mandal with a citation and cash prize of Rs. 20,000 during the Republic Day celebrations in Karimnagar on Thursday.

Informs relatives

It may be recalled that Akanksha (8) had survived when her mother G. Latha committed suicide by jumping into an open well along with her two younger sisters on Tuesday.

Akanksha, who slipped out of her mother's hand and was struck on the branches of a tree at the well, later climbed up on her own and informed her relatives about her mother's suicide.

Appreciating her courageous act of survival , the district administration rewarded the girl. However, the girl, while receiving the award, was still under shock as she lost her mother and younger sisters.
