VIJAYAWADA: Boats of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) will resume tourist operations in Krishna River from Wednesday. The tourist operations were suspended and the boats were anchored since the beginning of heavy flood in the Krishna.
Even then, the river with its undulating waves made Prakasam Barrage a hot spot for curious onlookers, who have been thronging the place, especially in the evenings, to feast their eyes on the scenic beauty around.
Visitors have been coming in hordes to stand on the barrage and enjoy the Mother Nature's laidback splendour, as feeling the forceful and unseen power of the river is turning out to be an amazing experience for them.
But there's so much more. An onward journey to Berm Park or Punnami Resorts to embark one of the tourist boats to enjoy the pristine wilderness that envelops Bhavani Islands, an island resort perched on the Krishna, can be far more invigorating and enriching experience.
The visit provides a sense of tranquillity or unfettered solitude that eludes bustling city life.
"The fleet of all the 13 boats will go off the anchor on Wednesday and we are hopeful that the freshness and greenery around will attract many to the nature's lap," says K.V. Venkateswara Rao, APTDC divisional manager.
The renovation and beautification of Berm Park and Bhavani Islands began to attract visitors to the place, considered a wonderful getaway. But floods in the Krishna have been disrupting the boating operations, causing financial losses to the corporation.
Mr. Rao, however, is of the view that the sudden and unusual swell in the crowds visiting the park to witness the sight of a furious river in spate has more than made up for the loss.
"Only on Sunday we lost a revenue of nearly Rs. 52,000 due to cancellation of boating activity. But we have gained in other areas like increased occupancy of rooms in Punnami Guest House," he maintains.
All the 13 boats - Bodhi Siri, Vijay Siri, Amrapali, Krishnaveni, the four speed boats, the two deluxe boats and the three country boats - will be back in action from Wednesday, transporting the adventurous lot to a world of fantasy.
