The 60th birth anniversary of late chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was celebrated across Prakasam district on Thursday by holding of public meeting and organising blood donation camps on Thursday.
YSR had earned a name for himself at the national level implementing a host of welfare schemes and development programmes to earn the goodwill of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Congress MP M. Srinivasula Reddy said while participating in an official function organised by the district administration.
The MP said “Ms. Gandhi reposed full faith in YSR. She wanted other Congress-ruled states to emulate the welfare measures initiated by him including the Rajiv Aarogyasri health insurance scheme for the poor''.
“Whenever I am in New Delhi, MPs cutting across partylines, used to ask me how YSR was able to implement so many development programmes'', he said.
The present Congress Government should follow the footsteps of YSR and complete all the programmes initiated by the late leader, he said.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson K. Arunamma said each member in every family had been benefitted during the erstwhile regime of YSR who had empowered members of the Self Help Group (SHG) movement by launching first the Pavala Vaddi scheme and later the ''Abhayahastham'' scheme.
District Collector Kantilal Dande recalled that YSR had planned a “Rachchabanda'' programme in Kondapi in the district to know the pulse of the people and fine-tune the delivery mechanism.
Prakasam district Congress President P. Rama Rao, MLC organised a mega blood donation camp on the occasion.
