The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday demanded that the Telugu Desam Party withdraw sitting MLA from Santhanuthalapadu, B.N. Vijaykumar, from contest by Wednesday.
“It is the responsibility of the TDP to prevail upon Mr. Vijaykumar to withdraw from contest in the mutual interests of both the parties,” BJP Andhra Udhima Committee chairman Bathina Narasimha Rao said here. “If Mr. Vijaykumar remained in the fray, it would demoralise the BJP cadre, and that they would not be able to work whole-heartedly not only in the 11 other constituencies in Prakasam district, but also in other districts,” party district president M. Venkata Ramana Rao said.
“This is a violation of the alliance dharma,” said BJP S.N. Padu candidate Dara Sambaiah.
The TDP will have to pay a heavy price, if it usurps the seat allotted to the BJP, BJP National Council member Perla Venkata Subba Rao said.
