Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district general secretary G. Dhananjaya Reddy on Saturday demanded to conduct a public ballot on renaming the Kadapa district as YSR district.

Referring to Congress corporators' contention that there was no need to object to renaming of Kadapa as YSR district, when no such objections were made in the case of Prakasam and Ranga Reddy districts, the BJP leader asserted that the two districts named after eminent personalities were carved out from existing districts.

He said there would be no objection if Pulivendula and Kadiri, Yellanur and Ramagiri were carved out into a new district and named after YSR.

Similarly, the State could be renamed as YSR Pradesh because the former Chief Minister developed the entire State, Mr. Dhananjaya Reddy said.

The irrigation projects undertaken by YSR could also be named after him, he added. Recalling change in the name of Kalakshetram as Neknaam Khan Kalakshetram, the BJP leader said sarcastically that there was no guarantee that name of Kadapa could be changed as Shaik Hussain Nagar or Paul George Nagar.

BJP win hailed

BJP Kadapa city president C. Basi Reddy hailed the party nominee Lakshminarayana winning the Nizamabad Assembly seat defeating APCC president D. Srinivas. The party, which has 182 MP, would rewrite history in the State, he said.

He urged party men to focus on people's issues.
