VHR questions rationale behind move to launch struggle
VISAKHAPATNAM: Congress Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao has advised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to support the consensus decision on Telangana instead of threatening to launch an agitation if it were really sincere about achieving statehood.
He was reacting to the statement of former Union Minister and BJP national secretary Bandaru Dattatreya who claimed that the BJP alone was capable of achieving separate Telangana and that the party would launch an agitation to achieve it.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Hanumantha Rao asked: "Why does the BJP want to launch a revolution for Telangana if its support to arrive at a consensus on the issue as specified in the common minimum programme will suffice?"
Also, there was no guarantee that the BJP would keep its promise after coming to power, the chances of which were remote, he said.
