The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams (TTD) decision to strike a deal with the famous Swiss-based Centurion Watch Company to give it permission to emboss the imposing image of Lord Venkateswara and His Golden Temple Town on its watch dials, in return for a ‘royalty’ in the form of donation, has predictably drawn flak from the BJP and its frontal organisations.

Party’s State spokesperson G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, at a press meet here on Thursday, strongly criticised the move and said that it would open the flood-gates for such similar ‘lucrative business offers’ from leading corporate companies both on and off the Indian shores for printing the image of the Lord on their commodities as well.

The idea is not only fraught with short-sightedness but also exposed the increasing commercial mindset of the organisation and those at its helm of affairs, of late, the BJP leader said.

Demands scrapping

He demanded the immediate scrapping of the deal as it has already badly hurt the sentiments of the devotees of the Lord world over.
