HYDERABAD: The BJP has asked the State Government to take up a mid-term appraisal of various irrigation projects and place before the people the details regarding the money spent and progress achieved so far.
At a news conference here on Friday, State BJP vice-president S.V. Seshagiri Rao, and secretary, N. V. S. S. Prabhakar, urged the Government to come out with details either at an all-party meeting or by publishing a white paper. They also wanted the Government to declare a comprehensive water policy as promised earlier.
They said the proposed policy should include the setting up of Godavari and Krishna basins water utilisation authorities to continuously monitor and frame guidelines for release of water under various projects.
The BJP leaders also asked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to implement the promise he had made at an all-party meeting that hydro power would be first allotted to lift-irrigation schemes in Telangana. "If it is not done, irrigation in Telangana would collapse," they added.
They wanted diversion of 100 tmcft of Godavari water to the Krishna basin as a permanent solution to safeguard the interests of projects taken up through surplus waters.
