The Bharatiya Janata Party State Secretary K. Koteswara Rao on Sunday demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the irrigation projects with a whooping cost of Rs. 1,86,000 crore in the wake of the findings by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
Talking to reporters after release of wall poster for the party’s “Praja Chaitanya Sadassu” here on June 29, he alleged that ruling Congressmen had colluded with contractors and swindled huge sums. “Only a thorough probe will unravel the scam”, he added. He said Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy owed an explanation to the people for the cost escalation of irrigation projects by Rs. 52,116 crore.
He found fault with the State Government for taking too many projects even without getting required environment and other clearances from the Centre and as a result intended benefit had not reached the farmers.
