Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Vishwa Hindu Parishad took out a rally in the city condemning the recent hate speech of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. The activists later burnt the MLA in effigy.

The activists demanded that Akbaruddin be disqualified from holding a seat in the State Legislature. The speech not only hurt the sentiments of the Hindus but also was designed to create enmity between the two communities, BJP City Unit president Nagendar said.

He called for condemnation of the statement by all Indians cutting across party lines. There were many Muslims too who resented Akbaruddin’s speech, he said. He demanded that the Government take stringent action against him.

The BJP was planning to organise protests on a large scale in all the districts for three days from Sunday, he said. Kolli Ratnakumari, PVN Madhav, T Subbirami Reddy of the BJP, Satyanarayana of VHP and a large number of activists of the BJP and VHP participated in the rally which went around the RTC Complex. Later, the activists burnt the MLA in effigy at the Gandhi Statue opposite the GVMC office.
