The name may sound as filmi as it could get, but the canine is indeed as robust and shrewd!

‘Billa’, the sniffer dog in the vigilance service of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), has bagged a State medal in the Andhra Pradesh Police Duty Meet held at Kakinada recently.

Scoring an edge over his peers, Billa ‘snuffled’ his way to the third slot in the sniffing competition to bag a bronze medal. He has also been selected for the National Police Duty Meet competitions scheduled to be held soon.

Aged around eighteen months, the dog is specially trained in sniffing drugs and other prohibited materials being smuggled into the protected Tirumala area and is hence deployed in the narcotics department of the TTD and the Tirupati Urban Police district.

What more, Billa and his handler Muruga (ARP Constable) were honoured here on Saturday by none other than the TTD’s Executive Officer L.V. Subrahmanyam, in recognition of their joint accomplishment. S.V. Rajasekhar Babu also admired Billa’s feats.
