Jayaprakash Narayan pins hopes on the President’s decision

Founder president of the Loksatta Party Jayaprakash Narayan has stated that bifurcation of the State is suicidal for the Indian nationality and reminded that history tells that chaos will prevail whenever decisions are taken based on temporary political gain. He said that the Congress, with help of the YSRCP and TRS, was trying to get political mileage out of bifurcation.

Addressing a media conference and a public meeting in Subrahmanya maidan in the evening here, he hoped that the President, who is the protector of the Constitution, would take a decision that would not affect the interests of the Seemandhra people. He pointed out that President was not only elected by Members of Parliament, but also from the members of State Assemblies. He alleged that some leaders were cheating the people of Telangana by luring them with huge employment opportunities and benefits if the state is bifurcated.

Speaking on water issues, Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan opinioned that Telangana and Rayalaseema regions would benefit more than Godavari delta if Polavaram project is completed. He stated that irrigation facilities under the Nagarjunasagar tail-end areas would improve after the completion of Polavaram project.

Later, the Loksatta Party leader interacted with farmers while participating in a round table conference organised by Andhra Pradesh Rythu Swathantra Samakya.

Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan came down heavily on the Congress party for the disorder prevailing in the state and called upon the people to give a long leave to the Congress party which had lost credibility. Replying to a question he made it clear that Assembly resolution is must for the bifurcation of the State and the centre should take the people of the state into confidence while taking the decision on the bifurcation. He questioned the Congress party on whether it is dividing the state as a gift for the people who have made the Congress victorious twice. He warned the Congress leaders that history would not spare their party if it bypasses the Constitution in bifurcation of the state. He dubbed Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde asking letters from the political parties as `drama’.

He observed that fruits of development did not reach everybody in the state and centralised in Hyderabad and asked the decision makers to concentrate on each district in the state in the coming days.

Loksatta leaders Dr. V. Ramarao, J. Ravi, R. Chandrakala, D. Suryarao and others participated in the press conference.
