Police on Thursday caught a resident of Kishanbagh, Md. Jahangir, 50, and his wife, Shahnaz Begum, 45, who allegedly tried to sell a newborn baby of another woman Minaz Bee.
The couple befriended Ms. Minaz hailing from Parbhani of Maharashtra, who had come to city for livelihood. On learning that Minaz was pregnant, they offered her Rs.1 lakh if she was ready to sell the newborn baby.
“They knew the woman was poor and persuaded her to sell the baby,” the Commissioner’s Task Force Additional DCP P. Rameshaiah said. Minaz went to Parbhani for delivery and gave birth to a baby girl a week ago.
Police tipped off
She came to city along with her husband to hand over the infant to the couple. On a tip-off, the police caught Jahangir and his wife. They were handed over to Karkhana police for further investigation.
Recreation clubs raided
The Commissioner’s Task Force (East) officials raided two recreation clubs in city in past two days and seized Rs.4.01 lakh after arresting 71 persons indulging in gambling by playing game of cards.
The raids were conducted on M/s Malakpet City Centre at Malakpet and M/s Epitome Sports and Cultural Association on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Md. Jahangir and Shahnaz Begum who offered Rs.1 lakh to the baby’s mother, arrested
