Satavadhani Bhootapuri Subrahmanya Sarma is a scholar and poet who dedicated his literary works to Lord Sri Rama and the legacy of such eminent writers should be safeguarded, Yogi Vemana University Vice-Chancellor Arjula Ramachandra Reddy said on Sunday night.
Speaking as chief guest at the 75th birth anniversary celebrations of Bhootapuri Subrahmanya Sarma and the tenth memorial award presentation function at C.P. Brown Language Research Centre here, the Vice-Chancellor said Kadapa was an abode of eminent poets such as Bhootapuri. He hoped the State government would sanction the ancient language centre in C.P. Brown Language Research Centre and assured to promote research activities in language and literature.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Dharma Prachara Parishad secretary Kasireddy Venkata Reddy in his keynote address, recalled that Dr. Bhootapuri Subrahmanya Sarma penned his works in Sanskrit by drawing inspiration from Maharshi Valmiki and wrote Sri Bhadrachala Rama Suprabhatam and Sri Krishna Rakshana and drawing inspiration from Allasani Peddana, wrote Sri Krishna Devarayala Charitra and Sri Krishna Bharatam. Retired Head of Telugu Department in Sri Venkateswara University K. Sarvothama Rao, who presided, said the poet has pride of place in literature and enlightened the society with his prowess in poetry, avadhanam, astrology, vaasthu and mantra sastra.
The award presentation function was organised by Bhootapuri Subramanya Sarma Memorial Trust and Allasani Peddanna Sahitya Peetham.
Founder of C.P. Brown Memorial Library Janumaddi Hanumath Sastry said Dr. Bhootapuri authored several historical works. C.P. Brown Language Research Centre in charge R. Chandrasekhara Reddy said he was impressed by Dr. Bhootapuri's literary skills.
Prof. Venkata Reddy presented Tenth Bhootapuri Subrahmanya Sarma Memorial Literary Award to retired principal of degree college, Kurnool, Appajodu Venkatasubbaiah and felicitated him. Dr. Venkasubbaiah recalled his experiences in his literary pursuit.
Head of Telugu Department in SVU Kosuri Damodara Naidu recalled that SVU awarded doctorate to Bhootapuri and promoted research on his literary works. Rachana Sahitya Vedika secretary N.C. Ramasubba Reddy spoke.
