Bheemunipatnam MLA M. Srinivasa Rao has sought payment of compensation to the farmers, fishermen and others who have sustained heavy losses during the recent rain and ‘Laila' cyclone.

The MLA met District Collector J. Syamala Rao and presented a memorandum to him listing the problems pertaining to the district and sought his intervention in alleviating them.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao noted that wet and dry crops in around 1,500 acres in Bheemunipatnam, Anandapuram and Padmanabham mandals were badly affected during the recent rains. Roads, drains and school buildings have been damaged and fishermen suffered huge losses due to damage of boats and loss of nets. He sought immediate financial aid from the Government to enable them tide over the crisis.

He also noted that the grant released on account of ‘Laila' cyclone, that occurred during May, was insufficient and even the sanctioned works were not yet completed. He sought release of sufficient grant and taking of necessary measures for completion of the pending works at the earliest.

The other issues on which he sought early action were: early clearance of the Simhachalam land issue and lifting of the lockout of Chittivalasa Jute Mill.
