Traffic jams and water logging are passé. One has to be wary of the yawning death traps every time it rains in the city.
The other day one more woman met a watery death when she stepped on to a ‘nala’ slab and got washed away.
Apparently no lessons have been learnt from such tragedies in the recent past. Open manholes and ‘nalas’ are claiming lives every monsoon and yet the GHMC has not taken any preventive steps.
Fencing of ‘nalas’ and providing an iron mesh to manholes remains a pipedream.
Even on important roads like the one in front of the Chief Minister’s camp office, there are two caved in manholes beside the flyover. The authorities are just not bothered to raise the manholes and properly lay the road. What is the civic body waiting for?
