The management of a private school claimed some time ago through an advertisement that its students secured eight out of the top 10 ranks in SSC-2008. But, if the school’s performance in Intermediate first year is to be observed, the same students are nowhere in the top 100 in the State. Not only this institution, but many corporate educational institutions are managing to get ranks in the SSC and releasing advertisements to the media by spending huge amounts. Conducting scholarship tests is another strategy being implemented by all corporate institutions. Though conducting admission tests is against norms of the A.P. Educational Act, many schools do so in the garb of ‘talent tests’. There is a strong need to protect the educational system.

It isn’t cool in theatres

Managements of many cinema theatres in the city do not run air-conditioners throughout the show, as they stop them a few minutes after the beginning of the show. I recently watched the evening show in Sailaja theatre at Gandhi Nagar. The show began at 7 p.m. and the AC was stopped within 10 minutes. The theatre management then switched on the fans and kept them on till the completion of the show. I request the officials concerned to take steps for displaying the names and telephone numbers of the officials concerned on the premises of all theatres so that the patrons could lodge a complaint with regard to absence of facilities.

More buses needed

Though Machilipatnam is the headquarters of Krishna district, the officials of the APSRTC are not operating express bus services from Machilipatnam to different parts of the district frequently. Even the express bus services between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam are limited. At present, there are non-stop as well as passenger services that are being operated via Kankipadu, Vuyyuru, Pamarru and Nidumolu. I request the officials of the RTC to operate express services from Machilipatnam to all important towns.

Bear expenses under Arogyasri

The Congress Government in the State is requested to declare that all white ration card holders are deemed to be considered under Rajiv Arogyasri scheme.

The government is also requested to consider the option of bearing medical expenses for those who undergo surgeries under the scheme as the poor are unable to meet them.
