Union calls for stir seeking wage formula

Telangana Pradesh Beedi Workers’ Federation in its general body meeting held here on Sunday unanimously resolved to demand the companies to increase minimum wages of beedi workers, packers and employees at least by 50 per cent.

Moving the resolution, federation president A.S. Posetty said in view of the increase in prices of all the essential commodities, the wages need to be hiked immediately. As there was no uniformity in the wages, beedi companies were getting manufactured products where the wages were low and retrenching workers where wages were high, he said.

Demanding same wage for same work, he said the beedi workers should agitate for the formation of national wage formula.

He alleged that the company managements were doing injustice to workforce by not paying their contribution to the provident fund of at least 30 per cent workers.

As per the law, workers should to be provided 26-day work in a month, but the managements, of late, were giving work for not more than 15 days.
