Impressive turnout of students from CBSE schools

TIRUPATI: The three-day Basketball tournament 2008-2009 conducted for Cluster VII schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) came to a grand close at the Sree Vidyanikethan International School premises here on Sunday.

An impressive number of students from CBSE schools functioning in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka attended the annual event. In the girls section, CHIREC Public School, Hyderabad emerged winners while the Navy Children School, Visakhapatnam was declared the runners-up with 17 points. Little Rock Indian School, Udupi (16) and the host Sree Vidyanikethan International School, Tirupati (06) occupied the third and fourth positions. In the boys section, the National Hillview Public School, Bangalore romped home with 50 points, while CHIREC Public School (Hyderabad) had to be content with the runners-up position with 36 points. P. Obul Reddy Public School (Hyderabad) and Navy Children School (Visakhapatnam) came third and fourth respectively. Chittoor Superintendent of Police K. Lakshmi Reddy took part as the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winning teams and mementoes to the team managers and students. In his address, he expressed concern over the growing disinterest on sports among students and the equally-disturbing lack of encouragement to the sportspersons aspiring to make it big in life.
