A scintillating performance by Ghanakanta Bora, an exponent of ‘Barbayan', a major classical dance tradition of Assam, lit up the stage at JKC College.
The dance performance was organised by the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (SPICMACAY) wing of the college.
Bora and his troupe performed ‘Sattrya dance', a traditional Assamese dance form. Bora is a renowned instrumentalist, choreographer, author and recipient of Sangeet Nataka Academy Award for 2001.
He is currently Head of the Department of Sattrya Music and Dance of the Government State College of Music, Assam. At the age of 15, he attained the title of ‘Barbayan' at Majuli Sattra. In 2008, he was honoured with the title of ‘Bayanacharya', the highest honour given by a Sattra.
Deboji Saikia (kohl), B. Raj Banshi (flute), Diganta Das (vocal), Dwijen Barman (symbols)and three dancers (Anvesa Mahanta, Seeta Hazariks, Sanghamitra Bora) accompanied Bora during the show.
Secretary and Correspondent J. Narendranath presented mementoes to the artistes.
