‘Central government has sanctioned Rs.12 lakh for the event’
Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi said that the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 12 lakh for organising Bapatla Beach Festival for three days in May or June.
In an informal chat with media persons here on Thursday, Ms. Lakshmi said that the Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi evinced interest in the festival. Mr. Chiranjeevi was asked to support events that would fully tap the potential of this area and he promised to do the needful. Later, addressing a public meeting at Eetheru village where she distributed gas connections under Deepam scheme to 104 women, Ms. Lakshmi said Andhra Pradesh was the first State to give legal backing to the SC/ST Sub-Plan and expressed confidence that it would alleviate the plight of those marginalised communities.
The Central Government is taking steps for improving living conditions of the poor people with due focus on education, health and employment. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has played an instrumental role in implementation of these programs. Ms. Lakshmi said every individual should take Aadhar card as various schemes like the Direct Benefit Transfer are being linked to it. Rajya Sabha member J.D. Seelam said the ruling coalition (UPA-II) is successfully implementing various welfare programmes under the stewardship of Ms. Sonia Gandhi.
