A sum of Rs. 1.23 crore has been distributed to 1,020 loan eligibility card holders in the district during the current rabi season so far, according to A. Babu, Joint Collector. Addressing a review meeting with the bankers and officials here on Friday, Mr. Babu wanted the bankers to speed the process of issuing crop loans to the cardholders during the Rabi season, as the farmers badly needed the money to purchase seed, fertilizer and pesticides. He said that loan targets of the mandal level were already given to the bankers. He said that about 20,000 loan eligibility cards were allocated to the district, which would be distributed to the applicants basing on their eligibility. Referring to the scholarships, he advised students taking admission into various courses to open bank accounts with zero balance and submit the details of the account online while applying for scholarship.
