VIJAYAWADA: Protesting against the Andhra Bank management's decision to go in for a public issue, members of the Andhra Bank Employees Union, Bank Employees Federation of India and All India Bank Officers Association staged a two-hour dharna at the Andhra Bank regional office here on Monday.

Union members raised slogans against the management's decision and expressed apprehensions on the phased manner to privatise national banks.

Speaking at the meeting, deputy secretary of Andhra Bank Award Employees Union K. Nagesh Kumar said that the disinvestment in national banks would affect all sections of society, especially the small and marginal farmers.

"Privatisation will only help influential and affluent sections of the society while people living below the poverty line would suffer," he said.
