Central trade unions and banking unions will participate in an all-India general strike on February 28 and employees would take part and make it a success, Vijaya Bank Employees Association State secretary Mallikarjuna Madanur said on Sunday.
The United Progressive Alliance government was inclined to increasing foreign direct investment limit in the banking sector and the bank employees unions were staunchly opposing the moves, he said while addressing employees of Vijaya Bank Officers Union and Vijaya Bank Workers' Organisation in the Institution of Engineers hall here. He lamented lack of compassionate appointments in the banking sector in the last 15 years. Plans to outsource core banking serving would jeopardise the interests of banking customers, he feared.
Mr. Mallikarjuna demanded abolition of forward trading which was the root-cause of skyrocketting prices of essential commodities, mainly owing to the ill-motivated policies of the Central and State governments.
He demanded implementation of social security schemes for the crores of unorganised workers across the country
All-India general secretary of the association A.B. Setty was felicitated by employees on his retirement. .
