The railway and postal employees termed the two-day general strike a huge success and said it should serve as an eye-opener to the Union Government pursuing ‘anti-people’ policies.
Members of the South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) led by Tirupati branch chairman G. Venkatamuni and secretary K. Sudarsan Raju wore black badges and took a protest rally from union office to station manager’s office.
The workers demanded fixing of Rs.10,000 as the minimum pay for all workers, jobs to the wards of railway employees, confiscation of assets of corrupt leaders and declaration of corrupt politicians as ineligible to contest polls.
Under the banner of FNPO and NFPE-affiliated Postal and RMS Joint Council of Associations, employees held a demonstration at the Head Post Office. State executive members B. Sridhar Babu, C. Kumaraswamy Reddy and divisional secretary S. Reddeppa demanded merger of 50 p.c. of DA in the basic in the 7th Pay Commission.
