KHAMMAM: A peaceful bandh was observed in Khammam district on Saturday in response to the call given by the pro – Telangana activists particularly the CPI(ML New Democracy and the TRS) condemning the Kadapa MP, Jaganmohan Reddy's attempt to launch his Odarpu yatra in Telangana districts and the incidents that sparked violence in Mahabubabad.

The police arrested some 25 NGO leaders, 10 JAC leaders and six TRC activists during the bandh in the district. The CPI (ML New Democracy) leadership had claimed that some 70 activists of the party including some supporters courted arrest on the occasion.

The Road Transport Corporation authorities claimed that only 10 per cent of the bus services could not be operated that too in Manuguru Depot limits during the morning session. All services were restored by 12 noon.

The New Democracy activists who made an attempt to stop the buses at the bus station had a scuffle with the police.

Police took them into custody and let off subsequently.

The New Democracy activists also made an attempt to stop trains at the railway station. Bandh had its bearing on the functioning of some of the government offices.

Police personnel were deployed heavily in the town.

A separate picket was put up at the Mamata medical college hospital where the Congress MLA Konda Surekha and MLC, p. Padmavathi were hospitalized.

The CPI (ML New Democracy) district secretary, P. Ranga rao said that the Telangana bandh was total in district.
