YSR Congress MLA Balineni Srinivasa Reddy was forcibly evicted by the police when he, along with several party activists, created a ruckus during the Rachabanda programme held here on Friday.
Trouble started when a large number of YSR Congress supporters and the MLA descended on the P.V.R. Municipal Boys High School grounds, the venue of the programme, carrying pictures of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. They turned restive when the police permitted only the MLA to enter the meeting venue.
Mr. Srinivasa Reddy had a wordy duel with Collector Kantilal Dande for not displaying YSR's picture. The Collector, also Municipal Special officer, made it clear that there was no scope for placing the picture of a former Chief Minister there.
The MLA also had heated exchanges with supporters of Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, who took exception to his demand and insisted that the authorities place the pictures of all former Chief Ministers, including Andhra State's first Chief Minister Prakasam Pantulu, before placing YSR's picture on the dais. The MLA snatched the mike from Municipal Commissioner S. Ravindrababu and interrupted the speech of DRDA Project Director A. Padmaja.
After repeated pleas to the MLA to relent failed, Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Rajinikanth Reddy along with other police personnel carried him out of the meeting hall. “No arrest has been. We intervened to restore order,” Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy said.
