VIJAYAWADA: A special court for the ACB cases granted bail to P. Jayakar Babu, former registrar of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences who is facing charges in a case pertaining to irregularities in the re-totalling of marks of some MBBS students, on Monday.

Dr. Babu applied for an anticipatory bail fearing arrest by the police.

The court, however, directed him to produce two sureties to the CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) N. Prasad. Following which, Dr. Babu produced sureties of two professors working in the university, the DSP said.

Mr. Prasad said that the court had also asked him to present himself in the Machavaram police station, where the case against him was registered, every day between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Dr. Babu would have to come and sign in a register until further orders from the court, he said. Dr. Babu was also directed to appear for any inquiry by the CID in future, he said.
