Superintendent of Police, Guntur Rural, J. Satyanarayana was awarded with the Special Tobacco Control Champion State Award for the year 2012 at a meeting held in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The award comes in recognition of the effort by the Guntur Rural Police in making the district as a smoke free district as part of the National Tobacco Control Programme by implementing the ban on smoking in public places. The Rural Police have booked more than 31,000 cases on violators and collected an amount in excess of Rs.17 lakh.
Mr. Satyanarayana received the award from Secunderabad MLA Jayasudha in the presence of Director of Family Health, Poonam Malakondaiah at the Indian Institute of Health & Family Welfare, at Hyderabad.
The Institute also gave awards to Guntur Municipal Corporation and Guntur Urban Police. Municipal Commissioner (I/C) P. Srinivasulu and Station House Inspector of Kothapet, Ashok Kumar received the awards from Ms. Malakondaiah.
