Robbers struck during daytime right in front of the Abids police station on Friday, snatching a bag containing two kg. gold jewellery from a jewellery shop worker riding a bike.
The complainant, Suneel Reddy, was heading to Kailash jewellery shop after collecting the ornaments from Mayur Kushal complex near the Cherma's showroom a little after noon when two bike-borne youths came from behind. He slowed down near the traffic signal post at the police station building when the pillion rider pulled the bag kept on the fuel tank.
“I nearly fell on a side, as the bag's strap was hung onto my back, but managed to balance myself and chased the snatchers,” he told the police. Reddy claimed that he followed the snatchers till Ramakrishna theatre but lost track of the latter. Then he rang up his employer, Ashok Kumar Agarwal, and approached the police.
The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, A.K. Khan, and other city police top officials visited the spot. This was the second major offence reported in the city in the past three days. Two days ago, thieves took away Rs. 14.6 lakh from a car parked on the roadside in Punjagutta after breaking its window.
