Backstage workers of the film and television industry on Saturday held a rally in Mumbai’s film city in support of actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been sentenced to five years’ jail in the 1993 Bombay bomb blast case.

Workers of the Dhadak Kamgar Union (DKU) will write to the Governor on Monday, seeking pardon for Mr. Dutt.

“He has always been extremely supportive of all workers ever since he entered the film industry. He has helped many of us financially in our times of need. He has suffered enough in the last 20 years for the crime which he committed and we do not want him to be behind bars again, said Khalid Khan, president, DKU film unit. .

Ever since the Supreme Court delivered its verdict holding Mr. Dutt guilty under the Arms Act, various people, including Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju, have demanded pardon for the actor. However Mr. Dutt has made it clear that he will surrender to authorities as per the court order.
