KARIMNAGAR: Around 25 Ayyappa devotees from the town have embarked upon ‘maha padayatra’ programme from Karimnagar town to Sabarimala in Kerala on Sunday.
The team is led by guru swamy Gadapa Nagaraju. The devotees would travel every day 15 kilometres in the morning and in the evening. They would take rest and do night halting at the temples en route.
The other Ayyappa devotees and others offer the ‘biksha’ food to all the Ayyappa devotees participating in the ‘maha padayatra’ programme and accord traditional receptions at the temple. Nagaraju said that the ‘maha padayatra’ would reach Hyderabad on November 3. From Hyderabad, the ‘padayatra’ would proceed to Sabarimala along with another guru swamy Venugopal and reach Sabarimala on December 10. They would traverse through Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and reach Kerala state amid odd conditions.
The devotees participating in the ‘maha padayatra’ would be given special ‘darshan’ of Lord Ayyappa Swamy at Sabarimala.
Minister for Endowments J. Ratnakar Rao, former DCC president T. Santosh Kumar, ZP chairman Arepalli Mohan, Karimnagar market committee chairman Y. Sunil Rao and others visited the Ayyappa temple in the town and participated in the preparations of ‘maha padayatra’ programme of performing special ‘pujas’ and other rituals and so on.
