VIJAYAWADA: Condemning the arrest of Pidatala Mariyamma, mother of Satyambabu, the accused in the murder of pharmacy student Ayesha Meera, at Hyderabad on Wednesday when she was on a fast demanding medical care to her son, the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) and the Organisation for the Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR) demanded that treatment be provided to Satyambabu immediately.

Krishna district secretary of the APCLC M. Venkatesulu and district secretary of the OPDR K. Yesu, in separate statements issued here on Wednesday, said that it was an undemocratic act by the police, who resorted to arrest Ms. Mariyamma and leaders of various dalit organisations, who lent support to her. They said that it was the responsibility of the government to protect the right to life of Satyambabu.
