A rally was organised by the Rotary Club and Vatsalaya Hospitals from the Fort junction here on Wednesday to mark World Diabetes Day.
Hospital director M. Venkateswara Rao flagged off the rally, which passed through the Three Lamps junction, Clock Tower, Balaji junction, and reached the Fort.
Dr. Venkateswara Rao advised balanced diet and regular exercise to keep diabetes at Bay. Rotary Club members V.V. Kasi Viswanadham, Murali Krishna, and Surya Bhagavan participated.
Arogyadata Foundation organised a rally from the Seven Road junction to APSRTC Complex on the occasion.
Foundation district in charge B.V. Ravi and members — P. Srinivas, Giri, and Chandrakala — said more awareness need to be created on diabetes as it was spreading fast among the rural people because of changes in food habits and lifestyle. They displayed placards to highlight the steps to be taken to control the disease among children. A free medical camp was organised in NGO Home. Collector Saurabh Gaur inaugurated the camp and said every person should take care of his health. Red Cross chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao and APNGOs Association Srikakulam wing president Hanumanthu Sairam spoke.
Junior Chamber International, Dowleswaram chapter, and Srilatha Diabetic Foundation jointly organised a meeting on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Anusuri Padmalatha, a doctor, said they had been conducting awareness programmes on diabetes for the last one week.
A ‘Diabetic Walk’ was organised on Sunday last. Later, a free diabetes check-up was conducted for all registered patients for five days.
Dr. Padmalatha cautioned against consuming high fat items and junk food.
JCI Zone-4 president M. Srinivasa Rao, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said his organisation had been conducting rallies, awareness programmes, and free health check-up camps since the last one decade.
